The Process

Check you can become a driving instructor
Must be over 21, hold a UK manual licence for at least 3 years, have fewer than 6 points, and meet DVSA conduct standards. Start here: GOV.UK eligibility check.

Get your ADI DBS (criminal record) check
Apply online via GOV.UK and verify ID at a Post Office branch. The in-branch ID-check service costs £8.22. More info: GOV.UK DBS check.

Pass ADI Part 1 – Theory & Hazard Perception

Pass ADI Part 2 – Driving Ability
